The problem

Deals live in inboxes, spreadsheets and one partner's memory

Most deal teams start with a spreadsheet. It works for ten names. By forty, nobody is sure which promoter was last called, who owns the follow up, or why a target was dropped in March. The notes sit in someone's email, the latest numbers are in a WhatsApp forward, and the Monday review spends half its time working out where things stand. When a partner is away, the deals assigned to them simply stop.

What it gives you

Inside deal pipeline, feature by feature.

  1. Multiple pipelines

Run separate pipelines for acquisitions, fundraising and sell side mandates, each with its own stages, so a buy side target never sits beside an investor lead.

  2. Stages and owners

Every deal has one stage and one named owner. Move it by drag and drop, and the change is recorded with the date and who made it.

  3. Filters by industry, region and ownership

Narrow a long list to, say, family owned packaging makers in Gujarat and Maharashtra, and save the view for the next review.

  4. Communication history and tasks

Calls, emails and meeting notes attach to the deal record. Tasks carry a due date and an owner, so follow ups do not depend on memory.

  5. Dashboards, reports and scenario planning

See how many deals sit at each stage and for how long, and compare scenarios, such as what the quarter looks like if two term sheets slip.

  6. Import and mass actions

Bring an existing list in from a spreadsheet or a CRM, then reassign, retag or move many deals in one action.

How it works

A typical run through deal pipeline

  1. Step 1Set up your pipelinesName the pipelines you actually run and agree the stages for each, for example Sourced, First call, NDA signed, Information received, IC note, Term sheet.
  2. Step 2Bring in what you haveImport your current spreadsheet or CRM export. Each row becomes a deal record with its industry, region, ownership type and owner.
  3. Step 3Work the dealsLog calls and meetings against each deal, set tasks with due dates, and move deals across stages as they progress.
  4. Step 4Review on the dashboardUse the dashboard for the weekly review: what moved, what is stuck, what is overdue and who owns it.
  5. Step 5Hand over to diligenceWhen a deal reaches a signed NDA or term sheet, open diligence on the same record so the history carries forward.

In motion

Deals move a column at a time

Each card is a target or a mandate. When a stage is reached, the card moves, and the move is recorded with the person and the date.

An example

A Bengaluru private equity fund screening mid-market targets

A Bengaluru fund looking at mid-market manufacturing businesses keeps around 60 names in play at any time, sourced from bankers, CAs and its own outreach. It sets up one pipeline for new investments and another for follow on rounds in its portfolio. Each target is tagged by industry, state and whether it is promoter owned or professionally run. On Monday the team opens the dashboard, filters to deals that have not moved in three weeks, and decides for each one whether to chase, park or drop it, with the reason written on the record.

Questions

About deal pipeline

Can we keep fundraising and acquisitions apart?

Yes. Each pipeline has its own stages and views, and you choose who on the team can see each one.

We already have a spreadsheet of targets. Do we start again?

No. Import the spreadsheet or a CRM export and map its columns to deal fields. Clean up obvious duplicates first and the import goes faster.

Does the pipeline decide which deals to pursue?

No. It shows you what is happening and what has stalled. Which deals to chase, park or drop is your team's decision, and the record keeps the reason.
